Developing Fitness Intelligence
Effortlessly Achieve your Fitness Goals by Establishing Harmony with your Body
I don’t know about you, but I don’t have time to spend hours at the gym every day. Quite honestly, even as a fitness professional, I don’t have the desire or inclination to spend more than a few hours each week working out.
On the other hand, I do have a strong desire and motivation to stay in top shape. Now, I’m a fitness coach, not an elite athlete. So my concept of top shape is not the same as that of a professional athlete. My goal is to be as healthy as I can be and still live a fulfilled life guided by the principle of moderation.
The real question is how does a person achieve a strong level of physical fitness without spending inordinate amounts of time doing idle exercise and munching on tree bark instead of eating real meals?
The answer is by developing fitness intelligence. This goes beyond understanding how the body functions, though that is certainly a part. It means connecting with your body on a deeper level.
Unfortunately such connection with the body is hampered when the body is in a state of dis-ease. This can be brought about by far more than germs. Flooding the body with toxins such as alcohol can start this process, but even more benign things like refined sugar can begin to throw the body’s natural processes off.
The worse the situation becomes, the more out of control the body gets and the more barriers arise between your conscious mind and your body. As you mistreat your body, sometimes unknowingly, it tends to shut your mind out and transition to self-defense mode.
Your body, which is an incredibly intelligent organism, must battle the inflammation and nutrient surges with itself. An example of a nutrient surge is the tremendous spike in blood sugar the follows drinking a regular soda. As the body becomes occupied with survival mode, it can allow a less and less interactive experience with your mind, because it values preservation ahead of communication.
You can’t will your heart to stop beating because the body has a singular purpose to continue living. It shuts out such a request from the conscious mind. By eating unhealthy foods, ingesting drugs, and living a sedentary lifestyle, you rapidly bring about the need for such changes in order to survive.
The human body can adapt to many situations. For example, it can adjust your metabolism to deal with situations where food is scarce so you don’t starve to death. But because its purpose is survival, it does not simply shed pounds because your mind wants it to.
It will, however, shed pounds when the fat becomes needed for energy. And it will stop storing so much fat when it comes into harmony with your mind and knows that the next meal is coming soon. This is the beginning of fitness intelligence.
I want to encourage you to get in touch with your body to develop this fitness intelligence. By speaking the same language as your body, you’ll find getting in shape and staying healthy far easier.
One of the first steps should be to increase your activity level. If you’re not working out already, then start exercising as soon as possible. As you continue, look to refine your methods so you workout smarter and not necessarily just longer or harder.
Be smart in your routines and use modern scientific training principles to constantly challenge yourself. Your goals will come much more efficiently when you utilize good training principles.
Next pay attention to the foods you eat and recognize what they do to your body. For example, combat the urge to take substances like sugar or caffeine to combat drowsiness whenever possible. By exercising and getting enough sleep, you won’t need these substances for energy.
Try to limit your consumption of refined (processed) grains and sugars. Eat foods in the most natural form possible, but remember to live with moderation. Find ways to enjoy eating healthy.
Refrain from eating trans fats. You may need to reduce your saturated fat intake, but don’t substitute trans fats. Cut back on other substances such as alcohol and drugs. Give your body a much-needed rest from these toxins.
If you follow these simple steps you will begin to develop fitness intelligence. You’ll gradually become aware of the needs of your body and be better able to anticipate those needs.
